Suggestion:
Plan/Budget time by dividing and conquering--
Use
a planner daily -- include all assignments, written in the following way:
§
each day's section can include
all assignments/tests due the following day
§
assignments/tests due in the
future (i.e. not "tomorrow") could be written in a separate box, or color, or listed daily with the due
dates next to them
§
students are advised not
to write assignments on the day they are due since it may be days before they
actually look at that page and it is then too late to work on tasks a little at
a time
**
Here’s how to divide/conquer an essay assignment:
§
estimate the amount of time the
essay will take to write well
§
divide that time by the number
of days available to do the essay (i.e. 2 hours divided by 2 days = 1 hour a
day)
Suggestion:
to use the hour most efficiently -- don't stare at a blank page for minutes
waiting for great ideas –
§
start by spending 15 minutes to
find quotes related to the prompt (potential evidence),
§
then 15 minutes jotting notes
as to how each quote relates to prompt (potential warrants),
§
spend 15 minutes writing a
paragraph -- start with the paragraph for which you have ideas (professional
writers don't start with introductions and word processors that can easily
rearrange are our friends) –
§
spend the next 15 minutes writing another paragraph.
§
The next day, the hour is spent writing the
remaining paragraphs,
putting them in order,
and readying the essay for submission
